Chiodini Kennel was established in 1998. Chiodini Rescue was founded in 2002. Chiodini Kennel & Rescue (CKR) is Nadia (ME!) & Mick Chiodini. We run a small state licensed, in our home, boarding/grooming kennel, exclusively for Small Pampered House Dogs fewer than 20# .

I have been a certified Dog Trainer since 1984, a Certified Pet Stylist/Dog Groomer since 1991, a Rescuer since 2000 & I am currently in the progress of learning Dog Massage so I can get certified in Canine Massage.

I am always looking for new ways to help the dogs.

I also make fancy collar covers & some other items to sell with most of the money going towards the rescue dogs' care while in rescue, the rest of the money for new supplies to make more items.

I like for the dogs to get plenty of good food & treats and we try to keep them as happy as we can. Most are usual sad & miserable when they first come into rescue, wondering why they are not with their people. The shelters are very scary places for dogs, so here we try to give them as much love & a home experience, as we can.

In 2008 CKR started working with New Rattitude, a National Rat Terrier Dog Rescue Organization. We help rescue & provide safe harbor for unwanted, abandoned, abused & neglected Ratty Dogs. I still do referrals for the Australian Cattle Dogs so if you know one in need please let me know.

We hold & temp foster for different rescue groups in our area & St. Louis. Most of those dogs come from JCAC & other shelters in our area.

Sad to say, ACDs are not much wanted around here & we seldom get them adopted. So I decided I needed a second breed to focus on. I chose the Magnificent Little Rat Terrier Dog as I totally fell in love with them, too.

Ratties are like little, tamer Cattle Dogs! Highly intelligent, hard working, and very willing to please. They love to be with their people. Ratties also get along great with Cattle Dogs that have been trained to be nice to little, smaller dogs & animals. So a perfect choice for me. It is CKR's main concern to place happy, friendly dogs. Some may need normal obedience training, but I do not knowingly place dogs with hard to work with behavior problems, some dogs I may know better than others, depending how long they have been with us. I, of course, cannot guarantee you that you will not have any problems. I do offer free training support throughout the dog's life through email or phone.

I always want to make sure I place the right dog into the right home. You may be a great home but the dog you're interested in could be a terrible match for you & then big problems can arise.

I do not care how long it takes to find the right home, the dog's life is in the balance & I never want them to suffer again or be bounced around anymore, it's very heartbreaking for them to loose the people they have grown so fond of. Dogs are very loyal. They do not take well to getting dumped.

While I work with Ratties & often all breeds, the Australian Cattle Dogs are one of my favorites & always will be & let me share what they are like with you!

The Australian Cattle Dog is a courageous, very tough, extremely loyal, highly intelligent working dog with strength & endurance unlike any other dog of its size.

Australian Cattle Dogs are very athletic & capable of quick and sudden movement. Renowned for their protectiveness and loyal to family & property, they are very selective as to who are friends or foe. Cattle Dogs are gentle by nature but will show aggression if their family or property is threatened. Their devotion is unquestioned and they will laid down their lives to protect their loved ones.

ACDs are one of the most versatile & highly trainable breed of dogs in existence today. Not only are they one of the greatest herding/working dog breeds, but they also make excellent family pets - In The Right Hands!

ACDs are great dogs of choice if you want to do Obedience, Agility, Flyball, Tracking &/or Herding competitions. ACDS are even being used as Hearing Dogs, Service Dogs, Therapy Dogs, there is no end to the intelligent & learning capability of the Australian Cattle Dog, also know as the Blue Heeler, Red Heeler, & Queensland Heeler.

Cattle Dogs are very loving, playful & always willing to please. They thrive on praise & will do anything to please their loved ones. It is most important to stress that the ACD must be treated with respect: in turn he/she will give you the same courtesy. In disciplining them they must be treated firmly but fairly. Without direction from a fair & firm "Pack Leader" they can get into lots of trouble finding things to do on their own!

It is also important to realize that these dogs need lots of activity & exercise. "A good dog is a tired dog" as the saying goes. Another very important factor to realize is Cattle Dogs want to be with their people all the time & will follow you everywhere, they are not meant to stay outside all the time away from the family, they want to be part of the family.

Dogs are true loving, loyal friends, capable of miraculous, wonderful deeds.

This is why I rescue them; it is my job, to me a most important job, one that brings a lot of sadness & heartache, but I never give up, I always keep going because it is just what I must do for my best friends.

Please remember that dogs need time, training, lots of attention & mostly lots of love. Almost all dogs want to be inside with their people, Not outside looking in. Even Cattle Dogs love to sleep on the bed with you, just as much as the little Ratty Dog does. Mine do, big & small!
